Overview

Wake Up Canada News is seeking a dynamic and engaging On-Air News Anchor to join our team. This position is pivotal in delivering timely and relevant news to our audience, covering local, national, and international events. As an anchor, you will play a significant role in shaping our news broadcasts and fostering community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • News Delivery: Present news stories live on-air, including breaking news.
  • Script Preparation: In some story situations, write and edit news scripts and collaborate with reporters and producers to ensure accuracy and clarify story details.
  • Interviews: Conduct interviews with newsmakers and experts to provide context and depth to news stories.
  • Story Research: Research and verify news information using various sources, ensuring credibility.
  • Social Media Engagement: Maintain an active social media presence to promote stories and engage with viewers.
  • Community Involvement: Participate in community events as a representative of Wake Up Canada News to build rapport with our audience.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with producers, videographers, and reporters to create cohesive and engaging broadcast segments.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in on-air role, preferably as a news anchor or reporter in a competitive market or social media setting.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong research and writing abilities.
    • Ability to read from a teleprompter with ease.
    • Quick decision-making skills, especially in breaking news situations.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and audience engagement strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in multi-platform news broadcasting.
  • Bilingual (English and French) candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in video editing.

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced and dynamic newsroom environment.
  • May require work during weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • This position is In Studio or Home Studio position, if you already Live in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
  • Applicants will need to work some evenings and weekends as required on Big News Days.
  • On Camera work is required.
